Online Guide – Basic Icon Editing Map icons are useful for many different purposes – you can quickly add icons to map and use them to store other types of information (notes and links to files & photos). Click on any image to enlarge it. Icons can be added to Icon Layers – to add an Icon Layer select any icon folder in the User Icons tree (My Data tab) and select Add Icon Layer from the action bar (1) or the context menu (right-click on the icon folder, 2). Enter a name for the icon layer To add an Icon select the Icon Layer and select Add Icon from the action bar (1) or the context menu (right-click on the icon layer). You can add multiple icons to any Icon Layer. A new icon will be added to the centre of the map (1) – enter a name for the icon (this name can be displayed below each icon, 2). You will notice that the map automatically changes to Draw mode (3), which means you can use the mouse to move the icon (Ctrl + left-click on the icon & move) to the position you want (4). To change the icon graphic / name / position you can click on the corresponding property in the Icon Property panel (5). Please note the projection displayed in the Coordinates Dialog if you want to manually enter new coordinates for an icon (these can be changed in the Settings Tab). You can change the names displayed below all the icons in this Icon Layer – select the Icon Layer and click on the Icon Caption Type section in the Icon Layer Property panel. Select any one of the options e.g. Icon Position will display the icon position below the icon (in the selected Coordinates – see Settings to change this). You can also change how all the icons in this icon layer is displayed by selecting an option in Icon Type section e.g. Pin & Shadow will render the icons as pins (rather than squares). You can change how all icons inside an Icon Folder is displayed – this can affect many Icon Layers. Select the Icon Folder and click on the Icon Render Type section in the Icon Folder Property panel. Selecting Icon Layer Controlled will use the setting for each Icon Layer inside the folder, but selecting a different option will override how all icons in the selected folder are displayed on the map.
